Tottenham: £30m forward deal mooted
Football is not an exact science. For evidence of this, you only need to look at some of the most expensive signings in the history of the game.
Kaka to Real Madrid for around £60m – that didn’t work. Veron to Manchester United at £28m – he was pants. And then there was that fail safe striker Andriy Shevchencko, who went to Chelsea in a £30m deal and left the club looking like a ghost. A ghost with no confidence.
After a feverish summer in the transfer market Tottenham now appear to have a highly priced outcast of their own. We still can’t figure out why Erik Lamela hasn’t played more games for Tottenham. You would have thought that, with that kind of outlay, the scouts would have done a meticulous job on the player before he signed. So, any serious shortcomings in his game would be identified prior to the reported £30m transfer.
He’s out with a back injury right now but has only appeared 9 times in the league for Tottenham this season – mainly off the bench. We still think that he could be a top player for Tottenham but this morning’s reports suggest that he could be on his way as early as this summer.
Inter Milan are determined to take Tottenham misfit Erik Lamela back to Serie A, according to reports in Italy this morning.
The San Siro club were thwarted in their bid to sign the Argentina forward in January, claims the Corriere dello Sport, but will return to north London at the end of the season with a fresh offer.
Perhaps he doesn’t have the physique or awareness for the high speed Premier League. But, if we were running tings at Tottenham, we would certainly give him another year. At this point Tottenham would be looking at a big loss if they sold the player.
Let’s see the lad in action for Tottenham.
