Next United number 7?

The ongoing mystery at Manchester United – apart from how Tom Cleverley gets a game – is who will finally fill the famous No.7 shirt.

Everybody assumed that Manchester United’s new signing Juan Mata would be the man to take it. But he either opted for, or was given, the number eight shirt. We say that he might have been given it because the optimists believe that a big summer signing is on the way who will fill the shirt perfectly.

These are our early contenders for the number 7.

Adnan Januzaj – The sensational teenager has to be a favourite to take the shirt now that Mata has taken the number 8. Manchester United number sevens have to be mercurial players and Januzaj certainly is that. He’s got unpredictable style and an unwavering belief in his own abilities even at his tender age. If he continues on this upward curve he will be a worldbeater by the time he hits his early to mid 20s. The star of the show Manchester United this season.

Lucas Moura – Manchester United have suffered in the wider areas over the last few years. They may well look at a change of formation in future. But if they do continue with the 4-4-2 formation then Moura would a superb player for the right hand side. Either flank for that mater. He’s a really dazzling footballer who would be adored at Manchester United.

Lionel Messi – okay, only the most optimistic Manchester United fan could imagine this guy playing at Old Trafford any time soon. But Messi has been going through a rough patch at this club and publicly slated the top brass last month. If he does leave Barcelona there are only a handful of clubs that could afford him. Manchester United would potentially be one of those.

Andros Townsend – you might think that Townsend doesn’t belong to the top bracket of footballers in Europe just yet and therefore wouldn’t be right for the number 7. But when this kid gets back to full fitness we think he is going to be a superstar. He’s got the same sort of lightening pace and trickery as Cristiano Ronaldo and all he wants to do is attack. He’s brave, strong and has a great shot on him. Would cost a packet but would be worth every penny.

Manchester United fans, who do you think will next wear the famous Number 7?
