Tottenham on prowl for midfielder

It’s been a quiet window for Tottenham with player departures the main transfer business so far in January. Jermain is off and Lewis Holtby and Etienne Capoue have been discussed as possible departures.

But with the amount of money sloshing around in the Premier League these days we wouldn’t be at all surprised if Tottenham made a big bid for a player before the end of the month.

Tim Sherwood hasn’t been in the job for a long but he will make his mark on the squad in terms of transfers as well as coaching before long – this is a guy who knows what he wants.

Tottenham have a great selection of midfielders but they have been linked with another one today. The Times says that Tottenham may challenge Manchester United for the signature of Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio. Capped 41 times by Italy he’s a 28 year old with vast experience and at the top of his game.

The Times Says:

Erik Lamela may exert pressure on Tottenham Hotspur to allow him to leave after being subject to a loan request from Juventus last night. The Argentina midfielder has not settled since his record £30 million transfer in the summer but Tottenham have so far resisted his exit, although the North London club would appear to be interested in Claudio Marchisio, the Juventus midfielder.

Known as ‘The Little Prince’ by team mates, Marchisio is a real all-rounder in terms of his ability to perform many functions in the midfield. He’s a very efficient ball player, gets between boxes really well and chips in with a few goals – a typically professional top Italian player. The Juventus midfielder is a classy if unspectacular performer.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Tottenham fans – do you need another midfielder right now or should Sherwood be concentrating on bolstering the forward line?

We need to ship a midfielder or two to begin with. Holby and Chadli can go along with Livermore. Once that’s done we need no additions centrally. We need a left winger/playmaker but those are difficult to find and tend to be expensive. Reus is a dream. We don’t need a striker either Ade and Soldado backed up by Kane is enough as I think Sherwood will play 4-2-3-1.

is evryone blind ? we need a left-back. from the start of the season we have been attacked relentlessly at left-back . other teams do their homework . whilst becoming the new ‘sicknote’, Rose does not have the tools to be a premiership left-back. Vertonghen is a quality player who is wasted and damaged deployed at left-back .

it is ridiculous to speculate on midfielders, no matter how ‘parker’ like they are when we need defenders !
