Mata bid reportedly made

As we said earlier in the week, we believe that this deal will happen pretty quickly. With such a huge amount of money at stake Manchester United and Chelsea will want to get this deal done so that they can both concentrate on the immediate future and a new reality.

With 40 million quid, or thereabouts, in the bank Chelsea may well look to spend the next 10 days recruiting a top striker. With their current crop not really sparking for most of the season, Chelsea may well have a splurge on a really top forward before January 31.

That is because the BBC is now reporting that Manchester United have made a bid of around £35 million for Juan Mata. And if the BBC is reporting it then it’s pretty much gospel as far as we’re concerned.

The BBC says:

Manchester United have made a bid in the region of £35m for Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata.

Mata, 25, has been linked with a move from Stamford Bridge having struggled to hold down a regular starting place under Jose Mourinho.

United deny making an official offer, but an initial bid has been tabled through intermediaries acting on behalf of the Premier League champions.

Mata did not train with Chelsea’s first team on Wednesday.

If the deal goes through it will be elation for Manchester United fans who have been desperate for signings of top quality in January. While Chelsea fans will be sad to lose such a star their loyalty towards Jose Mourinho will be unwavering.

It may turn out to be a great deal for both parties but we feel that Manchester United are getting the better deal in signing a desperately needed world class talent.

We will keep you updated.
