Tottenham become favourites to sign champion striker

Spurs close to striker signing?

With Jermain Defoe heading off the Toronto Tottenham’s front lien seems thinner than ever. The mini renaissance of Emmanuel Adebayor has lifted some burden from the under-performing Roberto Soldado but Tottenham don’t look full of goals in the way that the often did when taking to the pitch last season.

Whether Tim Sherwood will wait until the summer and take a long term view on striker investment will soon become clear. But there has been a recent link to ex-Chelsea man Salomon Kalou.

We reported last week on how Liverpool had been installed as favourites by bookmaker SkyBet to sign the Lille forward in January. Kalou has been excellent since his move to France, scoring 20 times in just 48 games. He’s proven at Lille that he can play as the main striker. At Chelsea he was more of a utility man.

Anyhoo, with news that Tottenham are interested , as reported by The Daily Mail,

Tottenham are set for talks over a £2.6m deal for Lille’s Salomon Kalou, 28, the former Chelsea forward.

The Ivory Coast international is ready to move back to the Premier League after Spurs boss Tim Sherwood declared his interest in the striker.

Kalou is expected to hold talks in London on Friday.

the odds have shifted in favour of Tottenham. SkyBet now have them as 5/1 favourites for the signature of the player. While Liverpool fans seemed underwhelmed by the prospect we think Kalou would be an excellent addition to most Premier League sides.

Remarkably, he’s still only 28, he’s in top physical condition and is still a great athlete who has tasted Premier League success with Chelsea. With so little cover up front right now we think that this one is a no-brainer. Expect developments, one way or the other, in the next couple of days.

Let’s see the lad in action. CLICK FOR KALOU
