So we are approaching the business end of the transfer window. Manchester United have yet to any business but they have been linked with hundreds of players already. David Moyes will surely seek to strengthen before the end of the month in order to push for a top four spot come the end of the season.
But with Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea all on the song and winning most of their matches Manchester United face a huge challenge in the second half of the season. One or two new midfielders would really do the trick and give the club the boost it requires.
Obviously some targets are more feasible than others but in an ideal world, and if you had carte blanche at Manchester United, which of these midfielders would you sign?
Ross Barkley – a beast of a footballer even at 20 years of age. He reminds us so much of Wayne Rooney. Although they have slightly different positions, they both play with their heads up and try to get forward at every opportunity. Wonderful technique and a real leader of the future.
Paul Pogba – if Chelsea are counting the cost of allowing Nemanja Matic to leave the club a few years back then imagine how Manchester United must feel right now. He left for peanuts but would cost maybe £40m to bring back. Still he’s a fabulous player – a box to box midfielder who also scores goals.
Wesley Sneijder – perhaps more available than the others on the list, Manchester United could feasibly do a deal for the 29-year-old in January. We think that he would be a sensational signing and get Manchester United back into the top four with his goals and vision.
Arturo Vidal – less creative than the others on the list and more of an enforcer. Would you rather Manchester United added steel to the midfield before creativity?
Koke – A brilliant youngster who is having a fantastic season in Spain. Perhaps represents something of a gamble but would you take the risk and potentially reap the rewards?

Ignoring his many attributes, and despite playing in midfield, Vidal has scored 15 goals and created 4 assists in all club competitions, at the half way stage of the season…
not bad for a player who is “more of an enforcer”!
