The carousel of names will keep spinning as the window approaches and, based on Manchester United’s recent performances, they will mainly be the names of midfielders.
Manchester United need a brilliant playmaker to go straight into the side next to Michael Carrick. The answer is surely Wesley Sneijder.
At 29 he’s at his absolute peak. Some may say he’s too old but, at 3 years younger than Carrick, he must be worth a shout in the medium term.
The main stumbling block, when Manchester United tried to sign him two years ago, was money. Inter wanted crazy money and the player himself was commanding a stupendous salary.
These inhibiting factors no longer apply. The player reportedly has a release clause of £13m in his contract. Galatasary are still in the Champions League after they beat Juventus with a dramatic late goal from the man himself. Ironically, the Turkish side are one of the teams that United could face in the next round. But Sneijder would surely still fancy a move to Manchester United, the club that he seemed so keen on in the summer of 2011.
Sneijder has been on fire since joining Galatasaray scoring 8 high quality goals in 22 games – exactly the sort of scoring ratio that Manchester United needs from a midfielder.
Never happy to sit on the fence, we at soccersweep think David Moyes has to start his spending this winter with the brilliant Dutchman.
