Manchester United look like they are in a fairly comfortable position in Champions League Group A. But, after the horrendous ignominy of defeat to Basle in the last group game a couple of years ago, Manchester United will want this group tied up as soon as possible.
David Moyes will be confident of victory here tonight in Spain despite Manchester United’s poor record in this country. They have only managed two victories in 21 games in European competition in Spain. But after a dominant performance in the reverse fixture a couple of weeks ago the Manchester United boss will feel that his team have the upper hand going into the game.
If Manchester United can get three points tonight then they will be coasting for the last couple of games and can concentrate on improving their league position.
Defenders Rafael and Jonny Evans did not travel with the squad. Tom Cleverley has made the trip despite suffering from double vision in the Premier League game against Fulham on Saturday.
David Moyes said this week:
“I have a lot of respect for Sociedad. We have to play well if we’re going to get those 10 points, which will get us over the line. We’ve got ourselves into a good position in the group and we have to try to maintain that.
So here is the confirmed line up for the 1945 Kick Off
Manchester United:
De Gea; Smalling, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Valencia, Fellaini, Giggs, Kagawa; Rooney, Hernandez
Subs: Lindegaard, Jones, Anderson, Nani, Young, Van Persie, Buttner.
