When Jose Mourinho had his first stint in charge of Chelsea they were a side with natural width.
With Damien Duff on one flank and the brilliant Arjen Robben on the other Chelsea looked much more like a traditional English side with a 4-4-2 formation. But the wingers left and Chelsea became more narrow.
Today they don’t have any conventional wingers in their side at all. But perhaps The Special One is looking to revisit that old formation.
Because reports today suggest that he is very keen on Benfica starlet Lazar Markovic.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola is hot on the story. It says:
There is renewed interest in Chelsea’s Lazar Markovic, because even before being hired by Benfica there was a possibility of the player signing for The ‘Blues’.
Excuse us for the somewhat clumsy online translation. The news outlet goes on to mention that Chelsea are also looking at a young Portuguese player, Pedro Delgado, the 16 year old who moved to Inter Milan just last summer.
Markovic is a Serbian winger, who has already played nine times as a senior international, scoring two goals in the process.
Even at 19 the young winger seems to know where the goal is. At his previous club Partisan Belgrade he scored 13 goals in 46 appearances. At current club Benfica he has scored three goals in just seven senior starts.
The Daily Mirror says of the rumour:
Winger Markovic is already a full Serbia international and has a growing reputation in Portugal.
He was linked with the west Londoners last January and again in the summer, when still at Partizan Belgrade.
Talking in June, shortly before his move to Benfica, he said: “A lot of people say that maybe I’m not suited to the English league. But I can tell you that I love the Premier League and I see it as an ideal stage for me.”

Why will Chelsea need creative player when we already have more?I believe we should look for the most appropriate option which is a finisher and holding midfielder.
