Chelsea could spend up to £90m – report

You sense Jose Mourinho is keeping the gunpowder dry for the right moment to spend

It shows what a big club Chelsea have become, in terms of budget, that the signings of Samuel Eto’o, Marco van Ginkel and William constituted a fairly quiet summer in the transfer market

Money has been spent but we still feel that Mourinho has kept a large part of the gunpowder dry while he waits for the perfect player to come along.

We all know that Mourinho loves a player who can mix it physically with the best but also has a wonderful touch. A balletic bulldozer if you like.

And reports today suggest that Chelsea may well be spending a huge amount of money in the winter window.

The Guardian says:

Mourinho plans to shop at his former club, too, as Porto are ready to consider offers for their sought-after French defender Eliaquim Mangala. Chelsea are also preparing to jostle with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani, who, according to the Daily Express, is unhappy at playing in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Paris Saint-German

They are both superb players and would both fit well into Chelsea and Mourinho’s template of players with power and precision. Mangala’s name has been thrown around lots in the last year and he looks like a very mobile and powerful central defender with his whole career ahead of him. With all this in his favour he could well fetch £30m.

We all know how good Cavani is. He is one of the best finishers in world football and it’s no surprise that he is unhappy at not being the main man at PSG.

It’s also a surprise that Chelsea didn’t make an official bid for him in the summer. Perhaps Chelsea knew that he was PSG bound all along. He cost PSG around £60m and the club would want most if not all of that back if they did decide to let him go – which is unlikely.

Whatever happens Chelsea need a long term solution upfront. Mourinho seems lukewarm about Romelu Lukaku so you can expect Chelsea to spend a lot of money, at some stage, to fill this gap.

Chelsea fans do you really think that you could get Cavani so soon after his massive move to Paris St Germain?

Am sure chelsea funs have become bored with the usual rumours that amount to nothing. I mean does chelsea really need a full back? Chelsea has gary cahill, john terry, ivanovic and david luiz as options for full backs. These guys are amongest the best defenders in the league i might i add internationals with the exception of terry. What chelsea needs is a holding midfielder who is going to supplement john obi mikel. Mikel is chelsea’s only defensive man now, if we release ramires a bit further up field we are going to see chelsea at full strength. If there is player we need is a complete no Nine.

The truth is I don’t like to hear that mangala when we have more better player in that position. as for cavani yes with the right amount. El sha, no no no.we have williams, hazard, kelvin, moses even Remirez can play that position. El can’t cope with the physical play of EPL jose send wisely.

Chelsea, needs a perfect finisher and a holding midfielder to aggressively deals with the Premier League this season.Cavani, could be the best option up front and we should be looking for a holding midfielder in other to allow Ramirs, counter the attack.
