After manager Rudi Garcia lifted the lid on a £4m bid by Newcastle for their French right back Mathieu Debuchy, Lille are now bracing themselves for an auction.
The Toon scouting network again worked brilliantly in identifying Debuchy months ago and, if it hadn’t been for the injury to Bacary Sagna, then the deal might already be done. But stand-in right back Debuchy, has impressed so much for France at EURO 2012, in front of the world’s media, that his value and the number of interested suitors has increased.
Chelsea are in need of a right back and are now apparently trying to hijack the move but fans of Newcastle will hope that Debuchy’s friendship with ex Lille player Yohan Cabaye, added to the promise of first team football, will sway the talented defender in the direction of North East England. Expect developments soon.
