Manchester United to sign A-Lister at last

After years of austerity and price rises under the new owners, it seems that the Glazers have finally realised that they can no longer expect Sir Alex Ferguson to muster championships out of thin air.

With few exceptions, the recent past at Old Trafford has been defined by the purchase of moderately priced players with potential rather than ready made world-beaters.

Now, rather excitingly, it seems that this trend is about to be bucked. If the speculation is at all accurate then Manchester United fans may soon be rejoicing in the signing of Luka Modric from Tottenham.

Many such stories can be dismissed out of hand but this one seems a little more solid, for various reasons.

For one, Modric seems keen on a move. He wanted to leave when Chelsea came calling last year and, while you wouldn’t rule out another bid from The Blues, they seem well equipped in that area now with Ramires, Lampard and Meireles all there to give Mata and Hazard the stage further forward in the midfield. So, while Modric’ function at Chelsea may be a little vague, his role and importance at United would be clearly defined.

At 26 Modric just about fits into the criteria for United signings, as there is still some room for his development as a player. He would also fit well into United’s wage structure and would cost a just about affordable £35m in transfer fees. Fergie is a known admirer of the player and would surely have bought him before now if the opportunity had arisen.

Croatian Manager Slaven Bilic has further stoked the fires by admitting that he has talked to his star man about a transfer.

“Talk of his future will only motivate him and boost his confidence. It’s also my job to turn that to his advantage, to make sure that extra bit of pressure will drive him and will not be a weight on his shoulders.”

“Now it’s going to be his and the club’s decision.”

Modric would be a sensation at Manchester United, seamlessly linking the defense and attack – a blur of positive energy, sublime touches and perennial motion . Manchester United fans would dearly love to see Luka at Old Trafford.

MODRIC AND KAGAWA WILL IMPROVE OUR MIDFIELD DRAMATICALLY AND A FEE OF 30-35 MILLION FOR MODRIC IS NOT THAT BAD WITH EPL EXPERIENCE.

    Jun 10, 2012 at 9:23 am

vincent, that team is shocking. by doing this you leave martinez playing as a lone central defender. doing we would get overrun by pretty much any team who packed the midfield. also modric is not the answer. he has a hyperinflated price tag. what we need is back up for anderson/cleverly not someone to replace him
