Tottenham now odds on favourites to sign classy Dutchman

After much speculation over recent weeks Tottenham fans will be overjoyed to hear that their number one Hugo Lloris has signed a new deal to keep him at the club for another five years.

The sweeper keeper has been in sensational form for Tottenham, particularly over the last year, and it was always going to be a bit of a struggle to hold onto him.

But the news means that Tottenham can now concentrate on strengthening other areas of the park with their No.1 goalkeeper situation sorted.

But with Brad Friedel reaching old age and Heurelho Gomes gone Tottenham will need to sign another keeper this close season as backup for Lloris.

There has been a lot of speculation about Tottenham making a raid on Swansea for various players and one of those was Dutch keeper Michel Vorm.

He’s been a really solid player for Swansea and, at 30 years of age, he’s got years left in the tank. Tottenham fans may be interested to know that their club is now odds-on favourite with English bookmaker Bet Victor to seal the deal for the keeper this summer, if he does move clubs, at odds of 4/5.

Having spent his first six years as a senior pro at Utrecht and Den Bosch in Holland, Vorm moved to Swansea in 2011 and has been a virtual ever present between the sticks for the club since.

He’s played 89 league games for the club and has also turned out 14 times for the Holland national team. He also went to the World Cup with the Dutch squad this summer.

We think that he would be a really solid addition to the squad. Let’s have a look at him in action. Tottenham fans: do you reckon Vorm would be a good back up keeper?

And Heurelho Gomes nowhere to be seen errrr!!!, what a writer you have here.. He left Tottenham May24th .. silly season is upon us….

  2. Mikee says:

He’d be a great buy but do you see him being happy as number 2 to Hugo Lloris?? No? Neither do I.

  3. sheikh352 says:

Cyril Bartick – He didn’t say Gomes was nowhere tob e seen – he said he has GONE. You need to read more slowly!

I can’t understand why Vorm would want to come and be happy to sit on the bench (unless he is happy travelling to the farthest reaches of outer-Europe for Thursday night games.) It’s a signing that seems to make no sense for the player, reaching his prime, whatsoever. It DID make sense when the Club thought Hugo might be off – but not now. Plucking someone from the Championship would be more believable. Either that, or promoting Jordan Archer.

  4. Ben says:

Friedel will stay as no.2 for this season, and Jordan Archer will play back-up to Hugo and Brad – might even get some minutes in the League Cup to show if he’s ready to be a number 2.

  5. JOHNNY says:

AS MUCH AS WE NEED COVER FOR LLORIS THE GUY WOULD NOT WANT TO BE SECOND CHOICE AND TO SIT ON THE BENCH .

  6. woody says:

lloris needs to improve distribution learn to catch the ball and organise his defence. Other than that he’s great.

  7. The Tottinghams says:

It is nice to see positive comments. Vorm is a really good keeper. Would have been to see him arrib had Lloris left. Now lloris is staying Vorm should stay somewhere he is #1

  8. Wendell Motley says:

I agree with Cyril, this article has been amended…yesterday’s version had Gomes still included…, so sheikh352, a little less attitude please…

  9. Lbanu says:

Vorm won’t be playing second fiddle. I sincerely hope Brad isn’t either. If he is may well prove to be a very costly mistake indeed, particularly if Archer is not ready! To be more emphatic, I would consider it a quite incredible oversight by management. To play Brad should Lloris become unavailable for a length of time, would be to invite disaster. Top priority for me would be a good keeper to back up Lloris.
