Moyes certainly needs to add quality out wide

David Moyes seems to have steadied the ship at Manchester United after a roller-coaster start to his new job.

Although they are still way off their best, Moyes has at least got his team winning again and showing the sort of heart that one would expect from this club.

The Arsenal game was a case in point – although technically outgunned and without the ball for long periods, the sheer will of the team in red saw them through on the day.

More style and guile will be required in the weeks and months ahead if David Moyes is going to properly endear himself to the Manchester United faithful.

Moyes certainly needs to add quality out wide and one rumour which fails to go away is that of Angel Di Maria to Old Trafford. Another wave of reports has come in over the last 24 hours which suggest that a bid is being prepared for the Real Madrid winger. The Star says:

David Moyes is desperate to add fresh creativity to his United forward line and has identified the Argentinian winger as his main target.

According to reports in Spain, the United boss is ready to splash the cash necessary to bring Di Maria, 25, to Old Trafford in January.

If Manchester United are improving it certainly isn’t because of Moyes’ only signing so far – Marouane Fellaini. After wasting nearly £30m on this lad the manager will be under pressure to flip the nuts with his next signing and we aren’t sure that Di Maria would do much better than the one-paced Belgian.

He’s a decent player but can go missing, play with his head down and offer inconsistent service. He also a tendency to fall over easily. He reminds us a bit of Nani – lots of skill but not enough football intelligence. Di Maria may well struggle with the speed and physical demands of the The Premier League.

All in all, it’s not a smart buy and it wouldn’t noticeably improve either flank. What do you Manchester United fans think? Stellar signing or another Nani?
