With so few really top players on the market in January, why on earth haven’t Manchester United made a bd for Shaktar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira?

The Guardian stated on Wednesday that:

Liverpool have made one £24.6m offer for the 26-year-old, which was rejected by the Ukrainian club, who value the Brazilian at £38m.

Goals? Check

It’s a striker’s nightmare when he goes on a barren run and can’t score for toffee. But Teixeira CAN’T NOT SCORE for toffee. With 26 goals in 25 appearances this season he has almost as many as the entire Manchester United team have scored in The Premier League this campaign (28).

Pace? Check

Manchester United have looked so slow and laboured in attack this term. In reality that’s probably as much to do with Louis van Gaal’s tactics and his insistence on picking Lingard over Memphis as it has with squad quality.

But Teixeira is a flyer. He can play on either wing, in the hole or up top and, as such, he would surely be a dream for Louis van Gaal – the ultimate Tinkerman.

Age, desire, overall talent? CHECK, CHECK and CHECK

At 26 he’s experienced enough to fit straight in and hit the ground running at Manchester United, but also young enough to be part of the long-term plans for the club.

He seems desperate to prove himself in a bigger league and become a household name and his technique is fantastic, as you will see from his highlights package below.

His coach said of him this week:

‘He’s worth €50m,’

‘He’s incredible, very fast, very good technique. I compare him with other players of the same age who changed [the fortunes of] a club, Di Maria for example at Paris Saint Germain.

‘Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.’

He also suggested that the player is available for the right price:

‘I don’t want to keep a player against his desire. He wants to play in a big championship.’
