The Sunday Times blew us all away on Sunday with news that Manchester United have agreed a deal for Ilkay Gundogan and are in advanced negotiations with Southampton for the services of the brilliant England full back Nathaniel Clyne.
MANCHESTER UNITED are in advanced negotiations to sign Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton as they contiinue to strengthen their squad. United are understood to have increased their offer for the England right-back to £18m.
United last week agreed a fee and terms for Memphis Depay, preventing the Dutch forward from joining potential Champions League rivals Paris Saint-Germain. According to club sources, they also have a deal in place with Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to join them from Borussia Dortmund. All three players are in their early twenties.
Clyne is precisely the sort of player that Manchester United needs. The right side has been a weak link over the last few years and Clyne can add solidity, dynamism, pace and great distribution from the byline. He’s almost certain to succeed at United because he seems tailor made for their aggressive style which uses the width of the pitch.
Gundogan stll has it all to prove. He’s a lovely, fluid player who keeps the ball moving and has great technique off both feet. But whether he has the physicality to boss the midfield for Manchester United remains to be seen. Could he turn out to be another Kagawa? Nice to watch but no fixed position in the side?
Louis has wasted no time in the summer transfer market
In truth, if he can return to the form he showed before his back injury he will be a good addition to the side.
With Memphis Depay agreeing to join Manchester United last week, the club could well have three new players in place by the start of June. Louis van Gaal appears to be getting his transfer business done early and, with a Champions League preliminary round likely, its definitely the sensible thing to do.
