Michael Keane set to reject Manchester United

Michael Keane now looks unlikely to rejoin Manchester United this summer, reports the Sun.

The Burnley centre-back was sold by Louis van Gaal in 2015 but has been heavily linked with a return to Old Trafford.

United’s imminent signing of Victor Lindelof makes their pursuit of Keane less pressing, but it is understood he is set to reject the Red Devils because he wants to ensure he’s playing first-team football ahead of next year’s World Cup in Russia.

The 24-year-old has been impressive when he has featured for England under Gareth Southgate, and may well have a better chance of making it to the tournament if he continues to star for Burnley.

Lindelof will join Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, and Chris Smalling as Jose Mourinho’s centre-back options, so it is understandable that Keane has concerns about game time.

Tottenham, Liverpool, and Everton are the other options he has to consider, but it can’t be ruled out that he’ll remain at Turf Moor for one more season.

United sold him for just £2million, but his market value is now closer to the £25million mark.
