United will listen to offers for defender

Jose Mourinho appears to have made up his mind when it comes to the pecking order of his defence.

Injuries have forced the Portuguese into a constant rotation policy this season, but he has now identified one centre-back who may be surplus to requirements.

According to ESPN, Manchester United will listen to offers for Chris Smalling this summer as they now prefer Phil Jones, who has been impressive when he has been able to feature.

Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo are Mourinho’s first choice options, but neither of them will play in the Europa League final against Ajax tonight as they are ruled out through suspension and injury respectively.

If Smalling goes, it’s likely Daley Blind will be kept on at Old Trafford, as he can play at left-back, centre-back, or in midfield.

Mourinho went public with his criticism of Smalling and Luke Shaw earlier this season, when the pair ruled themselves out of a game against Swansea.

Arsenal have previously shown interest in the 27-year-old, but it remains to be seen if they are still keen.

United are set to move for Burnley’s Michael Keane as a replacement.
