Kevin Wimmer is expected to leave Tottenham having made just 10 appearances for the club this season.
The Austria international has failed to establish himself at White Hart Lane since his move from FC Koln, and Spurs already appear to have identified a replacement.
According to the London Evening Standard, Hull’s Harry Maguire is the most likely target ahead of other players the Lilywhites have been linked with such as Burnley’s Michael Keane and Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson.
Maguire has had a hugely impressive season and has been key to the Tigers’ fight for survival.
Crucially, the 24-year-old is versatile and can operate either in a back three or a more conventional system, which would suit Mauricio Pochettino perfectly.
And whereas Keane is likely to spark a bidding war between the Premier League’s top clubs, Maguire is a relatively cheap option. It’s claimed Hull are set to sell him for around £12.5million given that he has just over a year left to run on his contract.
Eric Dier has recently been operating in a back three alongside Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, but the England international is being targeted by Manchester United. If he does stay, he prefers to play as a holding midfielder, so Pochettino needs another centre-back until Cameron Carter-Vickers looks ready for the first team.
