Manchester United ended the January transfer window with little to show for it.
Jose Mourinho was uncharacteristically tight-fisted throughout the month, instead choosing to trim the Red Devils’ squad by selling Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay to Everton and Lyon respectively.
Most of the big clubs seem to be waiting until the summer to do their big business, and Untied are no different.
The fans will be waiting with baited breath to see if prime target Antoine Griezmann does indeed arrive, but Mourinho has given one promising indication that he does have a plan in place – not necessarily for Griezmann, but for the summer in general.
“We are more focused on the summer period,” he told reporters.
“I like my players, so nothing for me (in this window). I know what I want, the market closes today, so there is no point in me speaking about the next transfer window when we have so many matches to play, so much to fight for, so many good players to work with.
“If you ask me ‘do I know what I want for the next transfer window?’ yes, I know. Is it possible to get? I’ll try, always, to be realistic.”
That suggests he already has a list of targets, though some of them may depend on how he rates the players he already has over the course of the rest of the season.
Anthony Martial is one midfielder who he seems undecided on, the Frenchman struggling to find consistency since the Portuguese’s arrival.
Griezmann is the superstar name most United fans would surely like to come in, but for now at least, Mourinho is keeping his cards close to his chest.
