Manchester United fans woke up to the exciting reports on Thursday morning that Antoine Griezmann had agreed personal terms with the club ahead of a summer move.
The Red Devils’ interest in the Atletico Madrid superstar is no secret, but it did seem like strange timing just a couple of days after the end of the January transfer window.
It seems the reports were coming out of France, but United have quickly moved to deny that any agreement has been reached, per the Daily Mail.
The 25-year-old may yet be lured to Old Trafford, but a source told the newspaper that the rumours were false.
It would have shed some light on the uncertainty surrounding Wayne Rooney’s future, as Griezmann’s arrival would surely see the England captain depart.
However, the situation is still unclear.
Jose Mourinho made an abrupt exit from his press conference after seeing his side fail to beat Hull at home on Wednesday, and that robbed reporters of the chance to quiz him about Griezmann.
It’s a case of ‘as you were’, then, as it doesn’t seem these stories are going to cease until the Frenchman’s future is sorted once and for all.
