They say you can never really separate football and politics.
World events sometimes even put the beautiful game into perspective. It’s almost reached a point where the unthinkable has happened – fans actually seem to care about something, i.e. the US election, more than the Premier League. Utter madness.
As the world woke up to the news that Donald Trump will be the 45th president of America, shockwaves seemed to reverberate around social media.
And while footballers aren’t typically the most insightful of political analysts, quite a few have got it spot on here. Here’s how some of the game’s biggest names reacted:
Wtf.. Let's put all the idiots around the world in power and see what happens. Next gen reality TV. #SadWorld

Would love to speak to someone who's actually pro Trump to see what's going on in their head but I just can't find them…

We live in extraordinary times.

Gary Lineker seems to be a self-styled politician these days, but he wasn’t alone in expressing his surprise at the unfolding events.
It sounds like Frank Lampard is treading carefully, as he’s probably living a stone’s throw away from Trump Tower for as long as he stays with New York City FC.
When Joey Barton’s talking some sense, though, it’s probably time for the world to take stock.
And then there was this:
Ahhh the internet 😂
