Jon Obi Mikel may not exactly be thriving under Antonio Conte, but even he can see that Chelsea have improved.
It looked as if the Italian had completely turned the club around, though recent defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal suggest there is still plenty of work to be done after last season’s disappointing tenth-placed finish.
Mikel himself has largely been consigned to the bench, having come to the season late having been at the Olympics with Nigeria in the summer.
However, he has noticed one major area of improvement, and that’s in Chelsea’s fitness.
Whether what he has told Goal.com should be construed as a cheeky dig at former boss Jose Mourinho is up for debate, but the period he mentioned was when the Special One was still in charge.
Chelsea’s players may not have taken kindly to Conte’s double training sessions, but at this stage last season, they were looking like they could become embroiled in a relegation battle, so he’s doing something right, even if they don’t look like genuine title challengers just yet.
