This summer, barely a day has gone by without a rumour linking Erik Lamela with a return to Serie A.
The former Roma attacking midfielder was much-improved for Tottenham last season, having initially struggled to live up to his £30million price tag, which is still a club record.
Now, those rumours can be finally put to bed, with the Mirror reporting that Spurs are set to offer him a new and improved contract, with the Argentinian thriving under his compatriot Mauricio Pochettino.
Lamela is being widely tipped to win over the Premier League as one of the Players of the Season this campaign, and he’s got off to a flyer with a goal on the opening day in the 1-1 draw with Everton.
Nonetheless, his performance in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace divided opinion; while he produced a lovely bit of skill to humiliate Spurs old boy Andros Townsend, other than that he was a little wasteful and gave the ball away too often.

Still, Spurs have seen enough to be convinced by him, and a new deal should make him one of their highest-paid players.
