Inter Milan have confirmed the sacking of manager Roberto Mancini just a fortnight before the start of the new Serie A season.
Goal.com are reporting that Dutchman Frank de Boer is set to take over at the San Siro.
Former Manchester City boss Mancini was under pressure having guided the Nerazzurri to a fourth-placed finish last season. Inter’s fall has been well-documented, so while fourth may not seem too bad, it’s worth remembering they were top of the table as late as January.
The 51-year-old was a Premier League winner with City, but he received similarly harsh treatment from them.
They say you can’t read too much into pre-season, but Inter’s chiefs were clearly unimpressed by the club’s 6-1 defeat to Tottenham on Friday.
And Mancini’s sacking could have an impact on the future of Arsenal target Mauro Icardi, who had recently reiterated his desire to stay.
It’s not known what kind of relationship he had with the Italian, but Arsene Wenger will be hoping this news could represent his chance to tempt Icardi away from Serie A.
