For most Premier League fans, Carlos Tevez is now nothing but a distant memory.
The controversial Argentinian first made his name in England for all the wrong reasons, becoming embroiled in a third-party ownership dispute that almost saw West Ham docked points; as it was, Tevez was allowed to play, and scored the goals to keep the Hammers in the top flight, at Sheffield United’s expense.
Then it was to Manchester United, where he became a champion, before moving across the divide to rivals Manchester City.
Now, Tevez has come very close to a move back to England.
However, Sky Sports are reporting that West Ham, the club interested in re-signing him, have called off the deal because of the striker’s extortionate wage demands.
Tevez had asked the east London outfit for a crazy £250,000 a week, a whole £100,000 more than they were willing to pay.
The 32-year-old would have been the highest-paid player in West Ham history, even if he had accepted £150,000 a week, but his request now means the deal has hit a snag.
West Ham may now consider other options, and they have already proven their ambition in the transfer market.
Tevez would have been an audacious buy, but it’s unlikely any club is going to be paying him that sort of money any time soon.
