Manchester City have had a bid rejected for Leonardo Bonucci, according to Sky Sports.
The Juventus and Italy centre-back may have caught Pep Guardiola’s eye with some impressive performances at Euro 2016, or even before that as he helped the Old Lady to a fifth successive Scudetto.
City offered Juventus £38million, but it seems that was not enough to bring him to the Etihad.
The most surprising element of the offer, however, is that it was so low in the first place.
The Guardian were reporting that City were preparing a bid of £51million, but they may well go back with a higher offer.
It’s understandable why Pep Guardiola is being tentative with his spending money, as even if his side sign Bonucci, they are still expected to launch an all-out offensive to bring in Everton defender John Stones too.
Martin Demichelis has left the club, so City do need new defenders, but they seem to have their hearts set on two of the most expensive in the world.
29-year-old Bonucci is also believed to be a target for Chelsea, whose manager Antonio Conte has worked with the player at international level.
