Az Alkmaar have turned down a bid from Tottenham for Vincent Janssen.
That’s according to Dutch publication De Telegraaf, brought to our attention by Sky Sports, who report that Spurs’ bid was rejected because it did not meet Alkmaar’s valuation of the player.
The 22-year-old had already been given to talk to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but they will have to up their bid if they want the deal to go through.
Janssen has burst onto the scene remarkably quickly in his native Holland, scoring 27 goals in the Eredivisie last season.
That stat made him top scorer in the division, so it’s no wonder that Spurs are considering bringing him to White Hart Lane, as if they need one thing to add to their squad, it’s goals.
Janssen has also caught their attention by scoring three goals in his first five games for the Netherlands, including one against England.
Having already signed Victor Wanyama this week, Pochettino can now turn his attention to boosting his attack as he looks to add back-up for Harry Kane.
Alkmaar may have turned down their initial bid, but don’t be surprised if Spurs are back before the start of the season, as Janssen is certainly worth persevering with.
