TOTTENHAM are preparing a shock bid for Watford forward Troy Deeney, according to a number of sources.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochetttino is keen to bolster his strike force and bring in support for star man Harry Kane with the club competing in the Champions League next season.
The Sun reports: “Deeney is not the club’s MAIN strike target, but he is one of the players they are looking to sign.
“Spurs are also trying to seal a deal for Marseille’s £30million-rated striker Michy Batshuayi.”
Interest in Deeney has increased with Tottenham set to give up on long-term West Brom target Saido Berahino, with the Baggies holding out for a fee of £25million.
Deeney enjoyed a fine season last time around, impressing many with his work-rate and bagging 13 league goals as Watford finished 13th on their return to the Premier League.
However, manager Quique Sanchez Flores was subsequently sacked, a decision Deeney branded as “crazy” and one which may well end up seeing the Hornets lose their skipper.
Deanne’s exit would be a huge blow for Watford but with Leicester also showing interest and, like Spurs, able to offer European football next season, it does look likely that one of the Hornets’ key players will be heading out of Vicarage Road this summer.
