MANCHESTER UNITED will win the battle to sign Valencia star Andre Gomes, according to a number of Spanish sources.
The Portuguese midfielder is also a target of Juventus, with the Daily Star claiming the Serie A champions have already had a bid of £22.8million plus £15.2 add-ons rejected.
However, the Express say that, with Jose Mourinho now in charge at Old Trafford, the Red Devils are clear favourites to secure the 22-year-old.
They report: “Gomes has been linked with a move to United for some time and the recent appointment of Jose Mourinho has increased the rumours.
“Mourinho is said to be keen on his fellow countryman and the fact they share the same agent – Jorge Mendes – has added weight to the deal.”
Gomes himself recently claimed he is unsure where he’ll be playing next season and insisted his sole focus at the moment is the upcoming European Championship.
Certainly if Valencia have their way he’ll be staying put, with the La Liga club’s boss Pako Ayestaran saying: “Andre is a footballer who interests us and the objective is to keep him.”.
But with United and Juve willing to pay such an amount, the smart money says Gomes will not be plying his trade in Spain next season.
