Tottenham Hotspurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has urged his side’s fans to take pride in toppling Arsenal to second place this season.
The Lilly whites have seen their form and confidence rise in recent months in the English top flight after almost winning the title, as they eventually capitulated against Leicester City.
Arsenal on the other hand were tagged favorites following the loss of form by title favorites Chelsea, Manchester United and Man United.
However, the Gunners failed in their attempts to build a proper momentum towards the title challenge and are currently lying third in the top flight, a situation that pleases Pochettino.
“The first half we played very well, and we had more than 70% possession. But we needed to be more solid and show more consistency – we lacked this today. I’m disappointed but we’re still fighting,” he told reporters.
“There was no hangover from last week – we started the game very well. They had few shots and scored two goals, but this is football and I congratulate Southampton.
“We still need to learn a lot of things – we need to keep improving into next season. It’s important to finish second, and to do that we need to win games.”
