While Newcastle haven’t signed a player as good as Wijnaldum in January we think that they will look back on their winter business very fondly.
Because another really excellent player is reportedly on the verge of joining Newcastle on loan until the end of the season. Sky Sports says:
Sky Sources understand Newcastle are on the verge of agreeing to take Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira on loan until the summer.
He hasn’t had it all his own way since he moved to Madrid and only started 26 league games in over a season and a half. He’s played just 7 games this season.
But he has had extremely stiff competition in this campaign from the Brazilian left-back Filip Luis, who returned from Chelsea.
But let’s be clear. He’s a lovely left-footer who will offer the sort of composure and class that Fabricio Coloccini gives The Toon.
After stints at Inter and Lazio the 6ft, 29-year-old really made his name at Udinese where he was a dependable and adventurous performer between 2006-10.
He then went to Granada in La Liga and performed consistently well before his ultimate move to Atletico.
It’s a brilliant loan signing if it comes off and confirms Newcastle as Premier League big spenders in January.
Let’s see what the Brazilian left-back is made of.
