It could easily be argued at this point that there is something fundamentally wrong with the thinking of Ed Woodward.
The Manchester United executive vice-chairman is reported, by a highly respected source, to have persuaded Louis van Gaal against stepping down after the performance against Southampton on Saturday that could only loosely be described as football.
It’s virtually impossible to empathise with with the current thought process of the man who is supposed to be safeguarding the present and future of the club.
What does he think is going to happen if he keeps LvG on at Manchester United?
Does he think that everything is going to magically sort itself out?
That the style of play will suddenly improve?
The players will suddenly understand what is required of them in this system?
That fans will start to love the ‘classic sideways pass’?
Woodward doesn’t seem to understand that Louis van Gaal’s system doesn’t suit The Premier League OR Manchester United. LvG has been at it now for a year and a half and few would argue with the notion that United are still getting worse.
Whatever Ed’s affiliations with the Dutchman he needs to do what is best for Manchester United right now.
If Woodward can’t make a decision this simple then imagine what will happen when he is faced with a difficult dilemma?
The mind truly boggles.
Increasingly it seems as if it’s not just Louis van Gaal who is unfit for purpose. Woodward should be Moved aside too after a catalogue of disasters on an unhindered downward trajectory during his reign. Let David Gill take the reins for a year to get things back on track.
Manchester United fans: Time for Ed to go back to the commercial aspects of the club that he is clearly very good at?
