The Manchester United board seem to be drawing out the career of Louis van Gaal to a painful degree.
Most relegation candidates would have sacked their boss based on such poor performances and results. But this is supposed to be an elite club. A serial winner and a serial entertainer.
What has happened to the standards?
The mind boggles as to what is going through the heads of the top brass at Manchester United right now and there is a horrible sense that they may commit footballing suicide by overlooking Jose Mourinho again. Harry Redknapp said in The Telegraph on Sunday:
If the United board had wanted to appoint Mourinho they would have done it already so I think they will wait until the summer and go for somebody like Pep Guardiola or Diego Simeone, if they miss out on the top four.
Talk about overcomplicating the issue.
Most don’t get as lucky as to have a second bite at such a cherry. But let’s be very clear. Manchester United are almost inconceivably jammy that Jose Mourinho is available at a time when the club is in full-blown crisis without a rudder.
If anyone tries to tell you that ‘it’s not that simple’, then you can refer them, in this instance, to the great Bill Shankly who once said:
“Football is a simple game, complicated by idiots,”
Manchester United should have brought Jose in in 2013. If they had we would probably be talking about United’s opponents in The Champions League knockout phase instead of home defeats to Norwich, Southampton etc. etc.
But there does appear to have been some slight movement from United as The Times suggests that they have at least spoken to The Special One:
United are understood to have held talks with Mourinho’s camp about the former Chelsea manager replacing Van Gaal next summer, but the situation could be brought to a head sooner if results continue to deteriorate and the Dutchman is sacked or walks away.
Ed Woodward regularly wears the expression of a man who has a sophisticated and brilliant plan that no one is privy to.
If he appoints Jose he will have every right to wear that grin. But, until then, Manchester United fans will wonder what The Dickens is going on at a club in serious danger of missing out on the top four again.

Lets ‘s hope so!!! just do not no why they are taking so long to sack Van Gaal.
I really fear that they are going to overlook Mourinho. Just have to wait and see.
