The Daily Telegraph is the bearer of seemingly good news for Manchester United fans today as they report that:
David De Gea pledges to ignore Real Madrid interest and stay at Manchester United
Known simply as ‘The Cat’ at soccersweep, De Gea has been super cool in his handling of the Real Madrid debacle in the summer.
In a still rather murky story, one of the parties involved didn’t get the requisite paperwork in in time and De Gea, who was very much expected to move on, stayed at Old Trafford in a huge fillip for the club.
Rumours of a summer move have been wafting around since, but the latest sound bites from the player himself seem positive.
De Gea is quoted in the same report as talking up the great United keepers like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Saar. He said:
“They were the greatest goalkeepers in the Premier League. They are legends at this club. That is what I want.
“I’m not sure who is the best now. But it’s what I want. I also want to win trophies for Manchester United.”
The cat quickly put his stressful summer behind him and has saved Manchester United on countless occasions this season. It’s anyone’s guess where the club would sit in the table if they didn’t have a keeper of such talent.
But it’s hard to imagine United being any closer to the top of the table without De Gea. For us, he makes goalkeeping worth watching. He doesn’t entertain for the sake of it. But you will struggle to find a more spectacular keeper anywhere in the world of football.
Let’s see some of his best moments for Manchester United.
