Title Winners? How Manchester United could line up by February based on current transfer links

Two additions?

Based on the form of the team over the last few months you would have thought that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal would be positively desperate to bring in reinforcements in the winter window.

And, while he has had this to say about transfers in January….

‘I don’t see January as the ideal time to do business as the players cannot then have the pre-season that I feel they need to be integrated into the squad, both on and off the pitch.

‘However, if I and the coaches feel that something can be done to improve the current squad then that is something we will look at if the opportunity does arise.’

….we have largely had to feed off the scraps of rumour dispersed by the tabloids this month.

The most likely addition still looks like Felipe Anderson. His club have admitted that the player was the subject of an offer from Manchester United in the summer and the player has stated this month that:

“My future? I don’t know if I’ll stay in January, I’m focused only on my work because I don’t live a good moment. I don’t know what happens,”

And The Manchester Evening News today wrote about the Manchester United link:

Talk of Felipe Anderson simply won’t go away

He would be a really exciting addition to the side and one who could make the forward line click for the second half of the season.

Beyond that, Manchester United may look at Edinson Cavani, a striker who would certainly fit the bill and whose boss, ex-Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc, has admitted that the player can look for new employers if he so desires.

Meanwhile The Independent today reported that Cavani’s odds on a move to Manchester United have been suddenly slashed from 10/1 to 2/1.

Apart from anything it would give the squad a huge boost if these two come in and also give Manchester United a real chance of clawing back the 7 points on Arsenal at the top of the league in the 16 games remaining – now wouldn’t that enamour the fans to embattled boss Louis van Gaal?

So here is a wholeheartedly optimistic view of how Manchester United could line up come February. What a team.
