This one seems to have been a particularly protracted transfer but it appears that Everton and Norwich are finally about to complete a deal to take Steven Naismith to The Canaries with Sky Sports reporting today that a medical is planned for the forward after an £8.5m deal has been agreed.
The BBC has reported along similar lines.
We have regularly been shouted down for criticising Naismith’s performances at Everton. In truth he is a very hard-working professional who regularly seems to come up with important goals – he could be described as unsung, but an important cog in any team.
The 29-year-old has played 123 times for Everton over the last three and a half years, scored 25 times and clocked up innumerable miles for the club. He’s also a seasoned Scottish international with 6 goals in 41 appearances for his country.
That said, if we held the purse strings at Everton we would bite the hand off any party offering £8.5m for the striker.
The question now is what Everton do with the money. They have already signed young striker Shani Tarashaj from Grasshoppers Zurich but he has been loaned straight back to his old club until the end of the season. With no real cover for Lukaku, beyond Kone, Everton will surely move for another centre-forward in this window.
Everton fans: good business to offload Naismith or a risky plan on the part of Roberto martinez, with so few options up top
