We all suspected that Chelsea would make a move for a striker in January and, while some may consider Guus Hiddink’s reported choice as a little left field, the prospective signing of Alexandre Pato is a very interesting one.
The Daily Telegraph reports:
Chelsea have held talks over signing Brazil striker Alexandre Pato as the club aim to boost their options up front this month.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed something of a renaissance since his career faltered in Italy after a 2007 move to Milan.
Injuries were a big problem for Pato and since he has returned to fitness he has shown some of his best form once more.
We would be very interested to see how he coped at Chelsea in The Premier League. Pato is an artist who will have a baptism of fire in the highly physical Premier League, should he make the move.
The same source adds weight to the link by using quotes from an interview that they conducted with the player last month where he stated that:
“I would like to come to England because I think the championship [the Premier League] is the No1 in the world.”
Pato has played 27 times for Brazil, scoring 10 goals. He’s currently on loan at Sao Paolo where he is in a rich vein of goalscoring form with 26 goals in 56 appearances.
Let’s see the player in action.
Chelsea fans: would Pato be the perfect complement to the squad and will he play at No.9 or No.10 – with or instead of Costa?
