Manchester United have been linked with a move for Dynamo Kyiv centre back Aleksandar Dragovic in the latest news cycle and he would certainly add steel to a defence whose deficiencies were laid bare by Newcastle on Tuesday evening.
But the player who we would really like to see joining Manchester United this January is Edinson Cavani. He is having some problems at PSG and his manager, ex-United man Laurent Blanc, has said that he would ‘understand if he wants to consider other career opportunities.’
Cavani would be a wonderful addition to the Manchester United attack – a gift horse that Louis van Gaal can ill-afford to stare in the face if the player is open to joining the club.
Based on Manchester United’s best current performers the inclusion of Cavani may require a change in tactic.
With Cavani in the squad Louis van Gaal should bin his idea of two defensive midfielders – it’s just not working – and put Schneiderlin or Carrick alongside Ander Herrera in the midfield.
Up top he could play Edison Cavani at the point of the attack with the recently improved Rooney in the hole and the pace of Martial and Memphis in the attack.
We think that Manchester United should pull out all the stops to sign Cavani and, if they did, the team could look like this.
