Ahead of their top of the table clash with Leicester tonight, Tottenham have completed a deal for young Ebbsfleet United midfielder Shilow Tracey, according to Ebbsfleet vice-chairman vice-chairman Peter Varney. He said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Shilow and we are proud of the fact that our youth academy is producing quality young players just one year after we set it up.

He also thanked Tottenham for the way in which they conducted their business:

“I would like to thank Spurs for the professional manner in which they have handled the transfer negotiations.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has laid his transfer strategy bare over the last year in particular, by bringing in a raft of young talent to the club. And the scouting network has clearly worked so far with players like Eric Dier and Dele Alli making a massive impression and being given weekly starts in the first team.

Tracey, a 17 year old midfielder, had reportedly been tracked by other London clubs including Charlton Athletic, West Ham and Crystal Palace over recent months but Spurs have won the battle for his signature.

Tracey recently went on trial to Tottenham as they toured Florida and scored a couple of goals in three impressive appearances for Spurs.

And the selling club wished the player well for the future:

“Everyone involved with the Fleet would like to wish Shilow the very best of luck as he embarks on a career with the Premier League club.”

He perhaps won’t expect to get any minutes in the first team straight away, but with Mauricio Pochettino’s penchant for giving youngsters a chance early in their careers, perhaps Tracey feels that Tottenham could represent a fast-track to Premier League stardom.
