Manchester United are in talks with Atletico Madrid for the signing of the brilliant 21 year-old-midfielder Saul Niguez, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror opines:
Manchester United have opened talks with Atletico Madrid for midfielder Saul Niguez.
Arsenal are also understood to be admirers of the 21-year-old, who has an £18million release clause in his contract.
The report suggests that Diego Simeone is keen to hold on to the player who has vast potential. But he has a release clause in his contract for €18m – a figure that Manchester United are reportedly more than willing to pay.
If the release clause is accurate then the decision will come down to the player who may be offered more starts at the struggling Manchester Club.
Niguez started his career at Real Madrid but was scooped up by Atletico to continue his development. He went out out on loan to Rayo Vallecano in 2013/14 but returned to play 35 games and score 4 goals for his club last season.
He has also been a regular member of the Spain squad at every youth international level and has played 15 times for the U21s (2 goals).
With Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger on the wrong side of 30, Manchester United will certainly look to rejuvenate their engine room in the not too distant future and Saul represents an exciting option with great potential.
Let’s take a look at him in action.
