Winger back: A potential Manchester United XI vs Sheffield United after LvG press conference

Must Win

Call us knee-jerk (or just jerk) but we strongly believe that Manchester United had an opportunity, over Christmas, to affect a really positive change at the club.

Louis van Gaal is proving not to be the answer for Manchester United and even he couldn’t have complained if he’d been sacked after 8 games without a win, including four losses, a Champions League group stage exit and two humblings at the hands of relegation fodder – including Norwich at Old Trafford. What does a man have to do to get sacked at United these days?

The painful thing for Manchester United fans, is that Ed Woodward’s inactivity could prove fatal for a club who looks, if anything, as if it is still LOSING ground on the elite. The fact that Arsenal (such accommodating opponents for such a long time) are clearly a better side these days is a good gauge of where the club is at.

Woodward had the chance to bring in Jose but, perhaps paralysed by fear, he chose not to act. Mourinho will be gone by the summer and Pep will probably take over at City. We just can’t see what Ed’s plan is. Is he really putting all his eggs in the Giggs will be the next Guardiola basket? Worrying times indeed….

Anyway, daily rant aside, it’s not all bad news. Jesse Lingard is back! Phew!

He’s supposed to be a goal scorer and goal provider but we haven’t seen much of either and we don’t see how he could get in the team ahead of Memphis.

We would much sooner give another industrious youngster, Andreas Pereira, the nod against 3rd tier opponents Sheffield United.

Louis also stated that Phil Jones was out and that several players, including Ashley Young, were tired after the Christmas debacle.

With all this in mind, here is the team that we would like to see fielded. But we do think that Louis might go with Lingard instead.

Manchester United fans: your elevens please…..
