Why on earth is this brilliant playmaker not getting more starts for Manchester United?

Pereira: Ready for first team action

Fast

One of the most worrying parts of the David Moyes regime, apart form results of course, was that he didn’t seem to get the best out of his squad and didn’t noticeably improve many of them.

We are beginning to have the same sense about Louis van Gaal. Ashley Young was clearly a big success story in Louis’s first year at Manchester United. But, as with many other members of the squad, past and present, he almost seems to be sucking the confidence out of his players.

Angel di Maria could hardly put one foot in front of the other after being frozen out for months. Chicharito was missing sitters before moving on and scoring 19 goals in the first half of this season at Leverkusen. And, after scoring 25 goals last season, poor Memphis doesn’t even look as if football is his preferred sport right now.

Top managers improve performance levels of players and there simply hasn’t been enough evidence of that under Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

And another whose confidence must be on the wane is Andreas Pereira.

It can’t say much about his manager’s faith in the player that, even in such barren times in front of goal as these, Louis still hasn’t given Pereira enough opportunities to shine.

Pereira: Ready for first team action

He’s only played 4 times for Manchester United this season and scored one goal.

Here is a quick player who has technique as well as heart. He’s a hard worker who clearly has a great hunger for the game and offers the sort of guile and creativity so desperately lacking at Manchester United.

Louis van Gaal was prepared to give the likes of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Nick Powell minutes over the last month with the club struggling. Both of them were patently out of their depth yet Pereira never let’s anyone down when he plays.

Louis van Gaal’s decision making continues to flummox many.

Let’s see Pereira in action.
