The Special Gone

Reports coming out of Spain today suggest that Real Madrid’s ludicrous managerial policy is set to continue as Rafa Benitez could get sacked just a few months into the job.

Sky Sports reports this afternoon that Real Madrid are to potentially hold an emergency meeting which could lead to the sacking of their Spanish coach.

It looks like Rafa Benitez’s time at Real Madrid may be coming to an end. Various outlets in Spain are reporting that the club has called an emergency meeting today,

And Spanish football expect Guilem Balague has tweeted that he thinks Rafa has already got the boot.

He elaborated:

“Spanish media have been put on alert because there could be a press conference this afternoon at 5pm or 6pm and the suggestion the sacking will be announced,”

So what does this mean for Manchester United? Well Jose Mourinho has been strongly linked with a second term in charge of the Spanish giants and if Manchester United don’t make a move for him now then The Special One will surely be lost to them forever.

It’s not a given that Jose will return to Real Madrid of course – he didn’t exactly leave on the greatest terms last time.

But managers of this pedigree don’t stay out of work for long and if Real Madrid do have a vacancy he would surely be the obvious candidate.

That will leave Manchester United with Louis van Gaal and the unproven Ryan Giggs at the helm of a club which looks rather rudderless right now.

Here was a great chance for executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to redeem himself for his first couple of years of underperformance in his current position at Manchester United.

But indecision looks to be rife at Old Trafford and they could now be close to losing out on Mourinho – a manager who would almost guarantee results for Manchester United.

United fans: Happy with Van Gaal or is now the time to act over Jose Mourinho?
