Manchester United have been installed as favourites to bring Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford by several major British bookmakers.
Betfred and Bet Victor now have the Portuguese serial winner as 2/1 favourite to join Manchester United and others, such as Paddy Power and SkyBet have also shortened his odds considerably.
The so called ‘Special One’ parted company with Chelsea on Thursday afternoon after an almost inexplicable fall from grace and rumours that he had lost the dressing room.
With Manchester United stuttering again after signs of recovery towards the end of last season, Louis van Gaal’s future at the club looks uncertain beyond the end of the current campaign – although he does have another year on his current contract after May.
If results worsen over the next few weeks he may even leave the club before the end of the season possibly allowing the Portuguese to step into the breach.
Although some Manchester United fans may question Mourinho’s style and also his volcanic personality, it’s difficult to criticise his statistical record as a football manager. He is the closest thing to a manager who guarantees results.
And if he could take Manchester United back to the top of the pile and bring a raft of silverware to a club which craves a return to the golden era of the last two decades, few fans would be concerned about the exact style of play – initially at least.
