The pressure on Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez was already intense before the weekend as many Los Blancos fans have been unconvinced by the stye of play of the team under the pragmatic Spaniard.

And the defeat to Villarreal at the weekend will only have invited further scrutiny of his methods.

Reports in the British press have suggested that not one, but two world class stars could join the club to improve their chances of reeling Barcelona in in the short, medium and long-term.

Firstly, Sky Sports passed this one last night:

Real Madrid are weighing up a move for Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, according to Don Balon.

The German international is on fire at the moment and probably enjoying his most influential season since joining Arsenal. Real Madrid must surely have been watching their old star with interest as the creativity in their own midfield is waning.

Meanwhile, the excel Spanish media publication AS reports that:

Madrid will return for Cavani if Bayern refuse to sell Lewandowski

Let’s face it. Either of these two would be great signings for Real Madrid and an upgrade on the possibly preoccupied Karim Benzema.

We know all about Lewandowski and he has to be one of the hottest properties around right now. We think that a move to Real is still very much a possibility.

But Cavani has also hit top form this season and has scored 11 goals in 20 games for a PSG side which is now 17 points clear at the top of a one horse race in the French League .

Let’s see Cavani in action. Real Madrid fans: an upgrade on Karim?
