It’s the biggest day of the season hitherto for Manchester United.
And, based on the performance levels so far this season, the odds don’t favour United to get a vital win in Germany on Tuesday night.
But if Manchester United play to their potential, anything is possible. Let’s not forget that this is the most expensively assembled squad in Premier League history.
And the players themselves seemed full of beans in their evening training session on arrival in Wolfsburg on Monday.
The squad looked relaxed and jovial as they went through their paces in The Volkswagen Arena – even the typically sincere Anthony Martial managed to break out a smile.
Our hope for this game is that Manchester United go for the jugular from the off. Too often this season they have sat back, played in an overly cautious manner and ended up chasing the game.
We want to see a proactive Manchester United tonight. But how often have we seen that in the last two years? Manchester City at Old Trafford last season is the only one that springs to mind.
The quality is there in this Manchester United squad. They now need to equal the sum of their parts and take the game to Wolfsburg.
