4-2-3-1: A Potential Manchester United XI with Cristiano Ronaldo back at Old Trafford

CR7

Clean sweep of trophies?

Even a few years ago it seemed fanciful to suggest that Manchester United could afford to prise Cristiano Ronaldo away from Real Madrid.

But the goalposts have moved substantially.

The Premier League is even more of a juggernaut with the new TV deal and Manchester United’s new sponsorship with Adidas means they arguably have as much spending power as their Spanish counterparts.

Marry those facts with Real’s form under Rafa Benitez and Ronaldo’s affiliation with Manchester United and we might just see a deal next summer.

Certainly Louis van Gaal feels that a possible deal for Ronaldo was worth mentioning this weekend.

So how would Manchester United use him?

The obvious position for him would be up top. Ronaldo guarantees goals and United haven’t been scoring enough.

So placing Ronnie as close to goal as possible, like so, makes sense:

ron up top

But we have always been fans of putting round pegs in round holes.

Manchester United’s best three forwards are Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and Memphis.

If Ronnie came in we feel that the most natural positions for them would be with Rooney in the hole, Memphis left, Ronnie right and Martial up top.

ron out wide

The great advantage of having players like Memphis, Ronnie and Martial is that they can all play equally well anywhere across the front line.

These four could create history for Manchester United and it’s a mouth watering prospect indeed.

you cant play with 3 strikers and two defensive midfielders who cant run with the ball, especially when rooney is in bad form…it will be a broken team.cristiano and rooney are 30 years old and they had played over 500 games, a number that suits to 34-35 players…

One of Carrick/Schweini with one of Schneiderlin/Herrera in midfield always. Then same formation with Robben in for Ronaldo coz it’s more likely to happen and coz Ronny will be in Paris.

This is just a big name formation format when Carrick and Bastian lack of strength to do the marking. Remember the same formation against Arsenal one of Herera or sniderline should be inclusive.

Not a good one at all, Mata for Memphis, Schneiderlin for Carrick and Ronaldo playing from the left so that could cut in to score.
