As the January window comes onto the horizon this rumour is coming to the boil nicely.
And although it seems unlikely that John Stones will move in January, a big move now looks pretty much inevitable.
And, speaking to Radio 5 Live, ex-Manchester United star Phil Neville has said that he thinks the 21 year old could play at the very highest level already. He said:
“I think he can play, not just at the best clubs in England, but at the best clubs in Europe. I really do,”
“One of the big boys in Spain, or Bayern Munich – I think he’s at that level. They’ll be looking at him and thinking this boy is something special.”
Stones has been persistently linked with a move to Manchester United since Chelsea failed to dislodge him from his club in the summer.
Such has been his level of consistency that he has already played 95 times at senior level for Barnsley and Everton.
His form has also seen an England call up and he now has 7 caps for his country since his debut in May 2014 against Peru.
Manchester United have the meanest defence in the league but when an English player this young and this good comes along United would surely have to be interested.
His huge price tag, reckoned to be around £45m, would be offset by the number of seasons of service that he could give to his next club.
Let’s see some of his best moments.
