Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has often led us down the garden path with regards signings. He is very good at keeping his cards close to his chest when he wants to and the signing of Anthony Martial is a case in point – who saw that one coming?

No one at all in the mainstream media is the answer.

So we have to keep our eyes open to any potential move, however unconventional.

To that end, one player has again been linked in the latest news cycle.

That’s Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie whose name has come up in the Manchester United rumour mills regularly over the last week.

The Daily Mail reports:

Manchester United eyeing up shock move for Bournemouth star Matt Ritchie as Louis van Gaal looks to add pace to his attack

Matt Ritchie is being watched by Manchester United but no formal approach has yet been made.

The 26 year old has played 7 times for Scotland (2 goals) after making his debut this year. He also has 2 goals in The Premier League after a very impressive showing in the first few months of the campaign.

The natural assumption to make is that this would only be a short term solution before Manchester United go for another A-lister in the summer.

He does look like a pacy and tricky player with decent pace but whether he could guarantee a place in the starting side with Lingard and Memphis desperate for minutes is arguable.

But, regardless of the competition for places, you would imagine that the player himself might find it hard to turn down the opportunity to play for Manchester United.

Let’s see him in action.
